9. Analysing Music Videos

Individual task focusing on analysing music videos, specifically costume, setting and location.

Costume

In different types of genre for music videos costume varies quite a lot. For example in the video "straight Outta Compton" By NWA costume is always found to be very typical of what males were perceived to wear in the area of Compton at that time. This is mainly because of the fact that the genre of this music is gangster rap.

All black, hoodies, chains, baggy trousers, baseball caps and white shoes.

Setting

Another genre of music however would always have a completely different visual image. "Rolling in the Deep" By Adele for example has a whole new set up.

With Adele's music video a stately home or mansion interior as it correlates greatly with the dark lyrics that she uses in her song.

Location

In this music video "German Whip" by Meridian Dan the location is very specific to the surroundings of London as the genre of this song is Grime and is often very closely associated with London. As this is where the genre was born.
